The southernmost region, running down the eastern border of Thailand, and bordered by Mon state to the north with a tropical climate and seasonal monsoons.
KEY FACTS
- The Dawei Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and deep sea port in the Region are the largest infrastructure project to date in Myanmar. It includes plans to develop an industrial estate, with sea, land (railway and road) infrastructure links to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam, as well as a gas pipeline to Thailand’s Kanchanaburi Province and commercial and residential developments.
- Accessibility to transport and public utilities is a critical development priority, especially for the Region’s islands.
- Myeik Township is an important one in Myanmar, with many major business, healthcare, financial and education facilities.
- The Tanintharyi Region is also Myanmar’s main production market for bird’s nest.
