GEOGRAPHY AND CLIMATE
Sharing a border with Thailand’s Kanchanaburi Province at its southeastern tip, Mon State lies between Kayin State, Bago Region and Tanintharyi Region. Mon State experiences tropical climate.
KEY FACTS
- The largest city of Mon State, Mawlamyine City is the main trading centre and seaport in south eastern Myanmar.
- The city has two industrial zones including the Kyauktan industrial zone which houses heavy industrial factories which produce construction materials, and light industries like food processing, and automobile accessories.
- In Mon State, the Myanmar language, and Mon language are the most frequently used.
- Mon State is a major producer of rice and rubber.
- Inroads investment have been made in cement production, deep-sea port facilities and industrial zones.
- Although well-connected to Yangon via transport infrastructure, Mon State still faces challenges with power distribution andgeneration, flood defences and clean drinking water.
