The future of infrastructure in Myanmar is set to undergo radical improvement within the next few years. With Japan’s help, the ongoing overhaul to the Yangon-Mandalay railway is set to halve the travel time between the two cities, speeding up the flow of people, goods, and hopefully domestic economic development.
Meanwhile, China has also formalised its plans in late 2018 for the China-Myanmar economic corridor. Part of China’s Belt and Road initiative, the strategy includes creating an alternative pathway to deliver energy and goods to China via sea and rail.
